"MOTHER OCEAN" - As Published By: The National Literary Foundation
Great eternal, mighty ocean, You're the mother of us all. Your coral reefs are breath taking And your kelp forests sway so tall.
Benevolent giver of life, Please, tell us why you look so blue. Is it the depth of your waters, Or all the things we do to you?
You're being poisoned chemically
With all sorts of human guano.
But, if we kill you, mother dear,
Then, will not the land soon follow?
We will try to tell your children,
Our loving brotherhood of man,
That your offspring must protect you
And be a part of nature's plan.
I'm afraid that most won't listen,
And a communal grave we'll share.
But, when we sink beneath your waves,
Remember, some of us did care!
